Since moving to the new building, the library's mission has not aligned with the operation of its entryway doors in two ways. First, the design of the the fourth floor library doors made it so we could not lock them. Second, the library entryway doors have not been as accessible as is ideal. For both reasons, we've had the fourth floor library entryway doors propped open.
Both of those problems will be addressed over spring break. Starting on Friday, March 8, construction will begin on adding a door opening mechanisms to the library entryways on both the fourth and fifth floors. Both floors will have automated mechanisms which, at times, may only be triggered after swiping your cougar card.
So be advised that you will likely need your cougar card to be able to access either floor of the library starting at some point over spring break. If you don't already have your physical cougar card, make arrangements to go get one. You can make an appointment to acquire one with the Cougar Card Office.
The Disability Law Society and its advisor Prof. Roberts have been paramount in enabling us to address these problems. Without their advocacy, it is likely that these problems would have persisted much longer.
